inspired by the hunger games fire dress

I recently read the first of the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.
The story of a bunch of adolescents fighting to the death in a futuristic state-sponsored gladiatorial contest has adolescents and adults reading the series and
running out to the see the movie.

I have not seen the movie (yet!) but am half way through the book series.
'The Girl on Fire Dress' worn by the main character Katniss
inspired my fire and flame theme.

bright + bold in florida

My daughter Ruby wore her bright striped dress the other day paired with neon shoes (notice she selected one of each color).
I couldn't resist using the bright colors of an
artsy downtown Sarasota neighborhood as a backdrop.

How great is the color in the middle of a construction site?
I'm sure she tolerated the photographing longer than usual
since she had her buddy Sophie with her.

All of this unseasonably warm weather has me craving my favorite go-to dip.
It's always a hit, make extra to snack on.

1 medium avocado, cut up
1/4 cup onion, chopped
3 T lemon juice
2 T basil pesto
3/4 t kosher salt
1/4 t fresh ground pepper

place all ingredients in a food processor until blended well.
store in airtight container, chill until serving time.
serve with pita chips
or my fave, rice crackers from trader joes + cucumber slices

fashion lookbook: navy + tangerine

It started out last weekend at American Apparel.  I found this navy bag with a
tangerine zipper. I saw myself using it as an everyday carryall that would fit my
iPad + more, folding it over for a cool clutch in the evening.
It didn't take long to pull this group together from there.
Did I mention that 'tangerine tango' is Pantone's color of the year?

I find it's about the mix in my wardrobe and home.
Spending a little more on one thing and mixing it with less expensive bargains.
Some items cost a bit more, but many are a steal
(under $3 for the bracelet, not quite $11 for the jeans!).

1.  Bi Color Fedora, Tory Burch
2.  Memento Letter Charm, Madewell
3.  Striped Smocktop, Madewell
4.  Ling Sleeve Breton Top, Boden
5.  Wood Bead Bracelet, City Buddah
6.  3" Chino Short, JCrew
7.  Diane von Furstenberg Saffiano Printed iPhone Case, Nordstrom
8.  Medium Leather Carryall Pouch, American Apparel
9.  Cooperative Mini Wedge, Urban Outfitters
10.  Streetside Sandal, Madewell
11.  Stretch Skinny Jeans, Forever 21

A great pair of sunglasses and a bag that goes beyond the beach costs a bit more.
Pair it up with a beach coverup form Target and you're ready to be waterside!

2.  Rickey Bikini, Anthropologie
3.  Converse One Star Adria Swim Coverup, Target
4.  Longchamp Le Pliage Open Tote, Sands Point Shop
5.  Printed Emmy Sandal, Tory Burch

Love these for the men.

bedroom makeover

I just redecorated a bedroom at home.
In a weekend with a gallon of paint, shopping trips to Target,
World Market + Anthropologie, the room came together.
It's now cozy and full of guests.

My daughter Ruby, exhausted, riding in the cart full of goods.

art + exersaucer living in harmony

Who could have thought a plastic baby entertainment center could look so good?
Next to fabulous art, it works!

Take it from the famously stylish and hip Novogratz family of 7 kids
to pair an exersaucer with great art.

color collections: slice of citron

Citron can be bright, but used in small doses
it can add just the right punch to your home or wardrobe.

Ahhhh so soothing...but love that intense color!

It can turn a little neon!
