red, white + blue rooms

Patriotic colors can work for interiors without looking
country-cutesy or like an American flag.

Crisp navy with a single red throw looks fresh in this white based bedroom.

A red coral motif mixed with stripes in these
two rooms updates traditional red.
Different patterns of blue on a neutral backdrop
keeps it from getting too busy.

Navy walls look sharp with red and white contemporary furniture,
keeping this nursery fresh.

give green a chance

What a great time of year in Ohio with all of the trees in their full green glory!
Celebrate bright emerald green by adding a splash in your home.

sun porch with a great view

This is one of my favorite spots to hang out.
Lucky for me it belongs to my father-in-law.
This year he asked me to redesign it.  Keeping it fresh and comfortable, we recovered the sofa and side chairs, selected new dining chairs and a glass table to open the space up.  The striped outdoor fabric keeps us from worrying about spills.

The shadow box filled with shells and mini easels made by my daughter and I
give the room a personal touch.

One of my favorite spots to hang out.

A little glimpse of the 'before'...in my same spot.

View of the gulf on Siesta Key.

artful arrangement

What makes this a great space?
A simple neutral sofa with the contrast of modern classic Barcelona chairs.
Shades of blue used throughout creating rhythm and balance.
These design elements against a simple white and wood backdrop
keeps it from looking cluttered.
But the wall of art and photographs is the focal point of this room.
Although it may appear as if it were casually put together,
surely a lot of thought went into the framing and placement.

bedroom makeover

I just redecorated a bedroom at home.
In a weekend with a gallon of paint, shopping trips to Target,
World Market + Anthropologie, the room came together.
It's now cozy and full of guests.

My daughter Ruby, exhausted, riding in the cart full of goods.

Ikat prints: better than ever

Starting with the shorts from Calypso,
it was easy to assemble Ikat patterns
for the latest in fashion + home design.
Ikat inspired prints have made a comeback the last few years
and they keep getting better.
What was once considered tribal is now hip and fun!

Love this color twist on a classic Ikat print by Madeline Weinrib.

beach house: something's gotta give

It's time for my beach vacation and that reminds me of
my favorite beach house from the movie 'something's gotta give'.
OK, so most of it was a movie set, but still fabulous!

That fantastic kitchen!
...the cozy open great room
...and that desk with a great view!

painted gray cabinets

Until my dream kitchen,
I continue to try and improve my not-so-dreamy one.
My husband says even though the kitchen isn't great,
the food that comes out is...which might further the renovation.
Who thought cooking well could be held against you?
My kitchen cabinets are now
freshened up with Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray,
A friend told me it felt french, sounds good to me!

barefoot contessa's kitchen + new cookbook

I've loved Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) East Hampton barn kitchen
since I first saw it in her cookbook, "Back to Basics".
All that white + light! I can see myself hanging, cooking + entertaining
in that fabulous space.
I have all of her cookbooks, which include the latest my sister surprised me with,
I've already made the panko crusted salmon, yum!

anna french bees

I've always loved this fun whimsical print called 'Bees' by Anna French.
In the top photo I used the fabric in a girl's bedroom on accent pillows. I've also incorporated in into baby blankets I've made as gifts.

inspirational interiors

This kitchen is fabulous!
It's light and airy, has a modern feel but yet it's classic.
I wouldn't get tired of it!
This great room is so inviting. It's calming but still has lots of color. The art work is also a great focal point.
