do-it-yourself deer doormat

I've been looking for a cool large doormat for our front door.

After not finding one I liked, it was time to make my own.

I chose a Whitetail deer, inspired by the ones we see regularly on our property.

Pretty simple. See the steps below.

Start with a basic coir mat.

Cut out a template of your design, pin it on the mat.

Spray 2 coats of exterior spray paint.

We were inspired by all of the incredible flowers, pots, seeds and even 

the shiny orange cart at Lowe's Greenhouse this weekend.

They carry all of the goodies to supply your very own fairy garden:

mini watering cans, metal benches, bird houses, mini rakes + hoes and so much more.

We ran into a saleswoman who has made them with her daughters,

she shared all of the traditions with us.

My daughter + her friend designed their own - including notes to the fairies.

Today we took a road trip to Ikea.

Since the closest is a 2 hour drive to Pittsburgh, I only get my fix every year or two.

One of today's great purchases were these outdoor chairs.

Of course I had to add yellow cushions to them...new favorite accent color!

In Milan, 2 residential buildings called Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) are currently being constructed integrating vertical gardens in architecture.

The 900 trees it will support along with shrubs and flowering plants will control 

the building's climate by filtering the air.  

What a great contrast from the hard surfaces of a city.

A sign that spring is here...forsythia in full bloom!

Such a burst of color...especially in contrast to the winter trees.

It's amazing what a punch of yellow can do to a room.

 Keeping the rest simple, one bright object can give a room the wow it needs.

 My daughter Ruby wore her bright striped dress the other day paired with neon shoes (notice she selected one of each color).

I couldn't resist using the bright colors of an 

artsy downtown Sarasota neighborhood as a backdrop.

How great is the color in the middle of a construction site?

I'm sure she tolerated the photographing longer than usual 

since she had her buddy Sophie with her.
